City/State Suffolk, VA Work Shift Multiple shifts available Overview: Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for 2 East IMCU in Suffolk, VA! Schedules available: Schedule includes every other weekend rotation. Full Time Nights (Three 12-hour shifts 7pm to 7am) 2 East IMCU is an award winning, 24-bed intermediate care unit renowned for its expertise in managing and stabilizing high-acuity patients. The unit specializes in the care of individuals requiring chronic ventilator support and BiPAP therapy. As a certified backup stroke unit, the multidisciplinary team is trained to deliver rapid, effective responses to neurological emergencies, DKA, and surgical patients. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) maintain a patient ratio of 1:8 or 1:12, reflecting a commitment to workload balance and quality care. Registered Nurses (RNs) have a patient ratio of 1:4, further supported by educators and a strong leadership team. 2 East IMC has been recognized with the Gold Plus AHA award for outstanding stroke care in 2026 demonstrating sustained excellence in patient outcomes. The unit’s dedication to teamwork, innovation, and patient-centered care makes it a model for excellence in healthcare.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Education:

HS - High School Grad or Equivalent One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
