Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for 2 East IMCU. This full-time night position includes three 12-hour shifts (7pm–7am) with every-other-weekend rotation.

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA/NCMA/NCPCT certification preferred.
• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Healthcare experience preferred; training in phlebotomy, EKG, and IV care is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Measure vital signs and assist with mobility and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and EKG testing.
• Assist with peripheral IV removal and specimen collection.
• Insert/remove Foley catheters per protocol and assist with safety practices.
• Observe patient conditions and document changes for the RN.

The unit specializes in the care of individuals requiring chronic ventilator support and BiPAP therapy. As a certified backup stroke unit, the multidisciplinary team is trained to deliver rapid, effective responses to neurological emergencies, DKA, and surgical patients. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) maintain a patient ratio of 1:8 or 1:12, reflecting a commitment to workload balance and quality care. Registered Nurses (RNs) have a patient ratio of 1:4, further supported by educators and a strong leadership team.2 East IMC has been recognized with the Gold Plus AHA award for outstanding stroke care in 2026 demonstrating sustained excellence in patient outcomes. The unit’s dedication to teamwork, innovation, and patient-centered care makes it a model for excellence in healthcare.The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse.
