Job summary

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the IMCU department on a full-time night shift (12-hour shifts). The unit provides telemetry/cardiac care with a patient-to-staff ratio of 1:5 and rotating weekends.

The PCT will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, perform phlebotomy and EKG testing, and support the RN in delivering safe patient care in a 30-bed unit.

Qualifications

• HS – High School Grad or Equivalent.
• One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, CNA/NCMA/NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps School, EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT, RN/LPN/RT/PT clinical student or recent PCT experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKGs, IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion/removal.
• Observe patient conditions and document changes, reporting to the RN or medical staff.

Overview:

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the IMCU Department.This is a full-time Night shift (12-hr shift) position in Charlottesville, VA.

Hours:

7PM to 7AM- Three 12-hour shifts (36-hours per week), with rotating weekends.

Department/Position Overview:

Intermediate Care Unit - Cornell 1: The Telemetry/Stroke Unit at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post- coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions. Cornell 1 also cares for TIA, acute stroke, and post procedural neuro cases that stepdown from ICU. This 30-bed unit sees a ratio of 1:5 with mixed patient acuity levels and is well supported with additional patient care technicians, educators, and a strong leadership team.

The Patient Care Technician

provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Education:

• HS – High School Grad or Equivalent


• One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience is preferred.
