Job summary

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA, is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Intermediate Care Unit. The role supports patient care, including daily living activities, vital signs, and mobility, under the direction of an RN.

The position offers full-time day shifts (7A–7P). A HS diploma is required, with BLS within 90 days of hire and CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or related certifications considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.

• Assist with EKGs, specimen collection, and IV removal.
• Ensure patient safety and proper documentation under RN supervision.

Full Time Days (7A - 7P)

Overview

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, support independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.

• HS Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

Certification/Licensure

• One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Graduate of Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Experience

• One year of related healthcare experience (Preferred)

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
