Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities to meet organizational goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Related

• Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures and disease process.
• Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, and monitor response to therapy.
• Obtain vital signs, weights, and perform necessary documentation before, during, and after treatment.
• Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments following prescribed orders, ensuring safety and proper documentation.
• Perform interventions for intradialytic problems and respond to patient needs.
• Maintain infection control standards and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.

Staff Related

• Participate in recruitment, orientation, training, and competency evaluations of staff.
• Collaborate on quality standards and educational initiatives.

Education/Communication

• Partner with team members to educate staff on water system integrity, safety, and organizational policies.
• Contribute to training programs and CQI activities.

Maintenance/Technical

• Ensure environmental safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of dialysis equipment.

Record Keeping

• Accurately document all treatment and quality activities.

Infection Control

• Assist with infection control audits and promote best practices among staff and patients.

Transitional Care Unit

• Support new patients through their initial dialysis treatments, providing education and coordinating care transitions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Includes lifting, moving patients and equipment, prolonged standing, and working in a healthcare environment with exposure to infectious materials. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.

EDUCATION AND LICENSES:

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Valid PCT certification or state-specific license required.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Minimum of five years patient care experience preferred.
• Successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.

Hourly Rate: $17.00 - $28.00
