Job description

Purpose and Scope:

Functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe, clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities to meet organizational goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient Related

• Assist in providing patient education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access.
• Evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, administer heparin as delegated, and monitor patient response.
• Record vital signs, weight, and treatment data accurately and timely.
• Ensure safety alarms are enabled, perform safety checks, and respond to patient needs during treatment.
• Document all treatment-related information and report significant changes to the nurse or supervisor.

Staff Related

• Assist in training direct care staff under supervision.

Record Keeping

• Participate in CQI activities, enter data accurately, and ensure documentation completeness.

Infection Control

• Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families.

Transitional Care Unit

• Follow new patients through their first 4 weeks, coordinate care, and assist with home dialysis education.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• Perform tasks involving lifting up to 40 lbs, standing for prolonged periods, and assisting with patient mobility.

Education and Licenses:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Must meet state and/or CMS certification requirements.

Experience and Skills:

• Previous patient care experience preferred.
• Successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.

The hourly pay range is $15-$25, with a comprehensive benefits package. The clinic is located at 9210 Springbrook Dr. NW, Coon Rapids, MN, with rotating shifts and no prior dialysis experience needed due to on-the-job training.
