Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a patient care assistant at UAB St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL.

This full-time role supports basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision, with a 7am–7pm schedule, 36 hours per week and one weekend every four weeks. Your duties include assisting patients with ambulation and activities of daily living, reporting changes to nursing staff, maintaining clean rooms and equipment, and performing routine care tasks such as oxygen setup, catheter care,

Qualifications

• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living.
• Help patients to rooms, bathrooms, and transportation as needed; assist to vehicles for discharge.
• Report any changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition to nursing staff and document findings.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly; maintain medical equipment and supplies.
• Perform technical patient care duties as directed (oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs).
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, intake and output; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their
  room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their
  vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as
  oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
