Position Overview
UPMC Hamot is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join the PACU! This full-time position is scheduled Monday to Friday, 9am-5:30pm, with no weekends or holidays. One year of previous patient care experience is required. The title and salary will be determined based on education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care, assist with procedures, and support activities of daily living.
- Report patient status changes to RN and provide feedback.
- Perform UPMC nursing core responsibilities and at least four BU identified tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, dressing changes, Foley catheter removal, etc.
- Maintain equipment, communicate effectively with departments, and foster professional relationships.
- Support unit activities, respond to call lights, transport patients, and participate in self-review and improvement.
- Provide patient and family instruction under RN guidance and apply restraints per protocol.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, support workplace safety, and adhere to policies.
- Document in medical records, perform clerical duties, and maintain competency in advanced skills as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Either 1 year of healthcare experience, or 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency, or enrollment in a health sciences program with clinical rotation, or a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
- Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class and basic information system training.
- Microcomputer experience preferred and effective communication skills.
- EMT or Paramedic certification or enrollment in such programs is preferred.
Certifications and Clearances
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
- Child Abuse, Act 33, Act 34, FBI Clearance, and optional ACLS certifications are required or preferred.
