Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a part-time Patient Care Technician (20 hours/week) to deliver hands-on patient care under supervision. You will assist with clinical procedures, monitor patient status, and support safe unit operations while focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and comfort.

Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, you will help prepare patients for procedures, transport them as needed, and document observations in the chart.

Overview

Part-time (20 hours per week): Flexible Evenings, 4-hour shifts, Monday-Friday.

Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Care Technician delivers hands-on patient care and comfort, assists with clinical procedures and technical tasks, and accurately observes, reports, and documents patient status. The role supports safe, efficient unit operations by focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, elimination, and prevention of complications, while preparing patients and environments for procedures. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, the PCT provides compassionate, patient- and family-centered support across diverse care settings to promote quality outcomes and a positive experience.

Key Accountability

Assist nursing staff with patient cares:

• Preps individual patient care area: ice chips, ice packs, IV tubing, and other supplies as needed
• Assists nursing staff in bedside patient care: temperature, warm blankets, SCD hose, clean linen, empty foley catheters and drainage containers.
• Assists nursing staff with pediatric care and two (2) staff pediatric transport.
• Transports patients
• Assists in monitoring stage II APS patients with APS nurse

Key Accountability

Prepares patient care rooms and procedure rooms for patient care. Organizes, cleans, and maintains clinic work areas, supplies, and equipment. Assists with stocking and management/ordering supplies.

• Responsible for ordering / maintaining clinic supplies.
• Rotates / removes outdated stock / supplies
• Cleans equipment after each patient use.
• Assures that all necessary equipment and supplies are available in patient care

• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
