MD Anderson's nursing community transforms cancer care through clinical practice, education, and research. Over 4,400 registered nurses deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and their families daily, focusing exclusively on cancer with a wide range of cases.

Unit Description

The GI Surgical Oncology Unit is a 32-bed post-operative medical-surgical unit serving patients aged 18-80. Surgeries include, but are not limited to, Whipple procedures, colon resections, liver resections, and small bowel resections.

Position Overview

Function: Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.

Scope: Impacts patient comfort and outcomes of care.

Essential Job Functions
  • Acts as a member of a multidisciplinary team to identify and address patient care needs.
  • Assists with activities of daily living, mobilization, admissions/discharges, and vital sign collection.
  • Updates and retrieves patient information.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment.
  • Acts as part of an assigned care team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Preferred one year of patient care experience.
  • Licensure/Certification: Preferred Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required by Human Resources.
