An established industry player in cancer care is seeking dedicated individuals to join their nursing community. This role involves providing compassionate patient care in a dynamic medical-surgical unit, focusing on post-operative care for diverse surgical procedures. MD Anderson's nursing community transforms nursing care through clinical practice, education and research. Each day, more than 4,400 registered nurses deliver compassionate, evidence-based cancer care to patients and their families. We focus exclusively on cancer and have seen cases of every kind.
The GI Surgical Oncology Unit is a 32-bed, post-operative, medical-surgical unit serving patients from 18-80 years old. Surgeries may include but are not limited to the following: Whipple, colon resections, liver resections, and small bowel resection.
Function: Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.
Scope: Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.
Essential Job Functions: Acts as a member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs. Assists in the completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge, and obtaining vital signs. Updates and retrieves patient information. Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Acts as part of an assigned care team.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Preferred one year of patient care experience.
Licensure/Certification: Preferred Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
