Job description

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a Medical Center Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.
  2. Performing basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure to promote patient health and wellness.
  3. Providing for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  4. Performing administrative support functions.
  5. Maintaining necessary skills and competencies.
  6. Performing other duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 Hourly

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Experience: No experience required

Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS Certification required.

Additional Certification/Qualifications:

  • Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in the Commonwealth of Virginia OR meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Successful completion of the UVa PCT Education Program OR another approved PCT Education Program.
  2. Documented proof of at least 1 year of recent (within past 2 years) experience in a similar PCT role, with successful completion of a written exam and clinical skills demonstration during a 6-month probationary period.
  3. Passage of a nationally recognized and accredited PCT Certification exam (e.g., National Healthcareer Association - C-PCT). Present Certificate as verification.
  • OR meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Currently enrolled student nurses who have completed Medical/Surgical Clinical Experience and Didactic coursework.
  2. EMT or above certification, with completion of the UVA PCT Course within 6 months of hire.
  3. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Physical Demands

Job requires frequent bending/stooping and driving (Home Health Aide only). Proficient in communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs and over 100 lbs (Home Health Aide only). May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
