Patient Care Technician Job Summary

The key duties of this position are vital to efficient, well-organized operations on the patient care units. As a valued member of the healthcare team, this individual must effectively communicate with all personnel throughout the organization, as well as patients and visitors. Flexibility is required to adjust to changes in patient volume. The role involves assuming additional clerical or patient care duties for assigned nursing areas each shift, demonstrating competency as a nursing assistant. Responsibilities include assisting professional nursing staff with routine duties such as taking vital signs, helping patients with personal hygiene, feeding, and ambulation, and performing other specific procedures. The position requires excellent communication and public relations skills, as it often involves initial contact with patients and their families. The work is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding, involving exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, fluids, and chemicals. The individual must follow directions from the nurse in charge.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Nursing students preferred but not required.
• Nursing Assistant experience in another healthcare facility preferred.
• Must be BLS certified.

Nurse Extern Job Summary

The Nurse Extern provides professional nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients. Responsibilities include assisting with patient data collection, implementation, reporting, and documentation. The extern supports patient education and discharge preparation. As a member of the healthcare team, they communicate patient needs to all disciplines involved in hospitalization. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program, ideally in their final academic year, and have completed fundamental nursing courses. Experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
