Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Nursing Float Pool in Michigan. The role supports the health care team, performs vital signs, phlebotomy, wound care, and activities of daily living, with dayshift hours from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, and 72 bi-weekly hours.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED, state-approved PCT program (or equivalent), active Michigan CNA license with phlebotomy training, and BLS certification valid beyond start date.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of a state-approved PCT program or equivalent.
• Must be actively licensed in Michigan as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) and complete a Phlebotomy Training Program.
• BLS certification from AHA/ARC or Canadian equivalent, valid at least 60 days beyond start date.
• Preferred: CPCT/A certification through NHA.
• Preferred: prior hospital direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides care under supervision focusing on ADLs and psychosocial support.
• Performs vital signs, dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, and EKGs as required.
• Performs phlebotomy as directed and handles lab submission with proper labeling.
• Documents care according to guidelines immediately after procedures.
• Maintains infection control and safety procedures.

Position Summary:

As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/ family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care. Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, EKGs as required in specific work area. Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.

• Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process and submission to the lab, follow infection control and safety procedures, monitor patients for adverse reactions.

• Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.

• Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.

• Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Completion of a state approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program

• Must be actively licensed in the state of Michigan as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) AND complete a Phlebotomy Training Program

• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred:

• Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National HealthCareer Association)
• Prior work experience in direct patient care role in a hospital environment
