Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician for the Float Pool in Michigan. You will assist with ADLs, perform phlebotomy, monitor vital signs, and support the care plan under RN supervision during night shifts.

The role emphasizes psychosocial support, accurate documentation, and teamwork with the health care team and patients and families. Per diem schedule includes 7:00pm–7:30am shifts with weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Cares for patients with basic clinical competence and follows care plans.
• Must have Michigan CNA license and complete a Phlebotomy Training Program.
• BLS certification from AHA/ARC or Canadian equivalent required.
• Preferred: prior hospital-based patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Cares for patients with vitals, wound care, and dressing changes.
• Performs phlebotomy with proper patient ID and labeling.
• Provides psychosocial support and ADL assistance.
• Documents care according to unit guidelines immediately after procedures.

Job description

Position Summary

As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/ family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Department: Float Pool

Daily Work Times: 7:00pm - 7:30am

Shift: Nights

Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours: 12

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care. Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, EKGs as required in specific work area. Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.


• Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process and submission to the lab, follow infection control and safety procedures, monitor patients for adverse reactions.


• Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.


• Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.


• Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.

Required

• High School Diploma or GED


• Completion of a state approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program OR


• Must be actively licensed in the state of Michigan as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) AND complete a Phlebotomy Training Program


• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred

• Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National HealthCareer Association)


• Prior work experience in direct patient care role in a hospital environment
