Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff in delivering patient-centered care. You will assist with clinical tasks, monitor vital signs, and help patients with daily activities.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, completion of a PCT program, Michigan CNA license, phlebotomy training, and BLS certification. Schedule is 7a-7:30p, full-time; on-site work with a collaborative care team.

Qualifications

• Cares for patients implementing the care plan.
• Maintains skills such as taking vital signs, dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, and EKGs as required.
• Reports patient observations to the RN promptly and accurately.
• Performs phlebotomy with proper ID, labeling, and lab submission; follows infection control and safety procedures.
• Provides psychosocial support.
• Assists with activities of daily living (toileting, bathing, feeding, ambulation).
• Documents care per hospital/unit guidelines after procedures.

As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/ family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care. Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, EKGs as required in specific work area. Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.

Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process and submission to the lab, follow infection control and safety procedures, monitor patients for adverse reactions.

Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.

Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.

Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.

Required:

High School Diploma or GED

Completion of a state approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program
OR

Must be actively licensed in the state of Michigan as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) AND complete a Phlebotomy Training Program

BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred:

• Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National HealthCareer Association)
• Prior work experience in direct patient care role in a hospital environment
