Job description

Patient Care Technician: Full Time 7:30pm-8am (Nights), three 12-hr shifts, including an every other weekend requirement.

Pay Range: $17.40 - $27.84/hr (Actual offer rates are based upon the applicant’s relevant job experience and the requirements of the position)

The Patient Care Technician performs direct patient care activities as outlined by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, assisting medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests, helping patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), obtaining non-invasive body fluid specimens, drawing blood, and performing EKGs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under RN supervision, performs technical duties, treatments, and procedures such as inserting/discontinuing IVs, performing EKGs, and implementing care plans.
  • Assists with patient hygiene, skin care, ambulation, transfers, treatments (e.g., enemas, ostomy care, suctioning, catheterization), bed making, sterile dressings, and oxygen therapy monitoring.
  • Provides hourly rounds to patients, assists with ambulation, and supports patient mobility and comfort.
  • Observes and records vital signs, intake, and output.
  • Practices infection control and standard precautions, maintains cleanliness of patient areas.
  • Collects specimens, performs phlebotomy, and helps reposition patients.
  • Gathers basic patient information, reports abnormal findings or changes in condition.
  • Runs errands, sets up and procures equipment.
  • Performs additional duties consistent with the role and area, within DC Board of Nursing regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a healthcare training program (CNA, PCT, etc.) preferred
  • Successful completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course and clinical experience, or foreign nursing credentials evaluated as equivalent
  • Phlebotomy course completion preferred
  • Six months of PCT experience or 1,000 hours of related healthcare work within the last 36 months, including roles like military medical technician, EMT, or paramedic
