Job description

Patient Care Technician: Full Time 7:30pm-8am (Nights), three 12-hr shifts, including an every other weekend requirement.

Pay Range: $17.40 - $27.84/hr (Actual offer rates are based on the applicant’s relevant job experience and the requirements of the position)

We are seeking a Full-time Patient Care Technician in Neuro/Stroke who embodies our tradition of excellence. If you want to make a difference daily, join our team of dedicated professionals.

The Patient Care Technician performs direct patient care activities as outlined by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, assisting medical and nursing staff with procedures, tests, ADLs, specimen collection, blood draws, and EKGs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under RN supervision, performs technical duties, treatments, and procedures contributing to safe, efficient patient care, including IV insertion/discontinuation, ECGs, and implementing care plans.
  • Assists with patient hygiene, mobility, transfers, treatments (e.g., enemas, ostomy care, suctioning, catheterization), bed making, sterile dressings, and oxygen monitoring.
  • Provides hourly patient rounds, responds promptly to needs, and assists with ambulation and ROM exercises.
  • Observes, documents, and monitors vital signs, and records intake/output.
  • Practices infection control and standard precautions, performs light housekeeping to maintain clean patient areas.
  • Collects specimens, performs phlebotomy, and helps reposition patients.
  • Gathers basic patient information, reports abnormal findings or changes to nursing staff.
  • Runs errands, sets up equipment, and assumes other related duties as appropriate.

Required Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and how to perform them
  • Effective communication skills with clients and team members
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an approved healthcare training program (e.g., CNA, PCT)
  • Successful completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing course and clinical experience, or foreign nursing credentials evaluated as equivalent
  • Completion of an approved phlebotomy course preferred
  • Six months of prior PCT experience or 1,000 hours as a military medical technician, EMT, or Paramedic within the last 36 months preferred
