Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for a full-time night shift in Suffolk, VA. The role supports a general medicine unit, working under the supervision of registered nurses to deliver patient care and assist with admissions and discharges.

Ideal candidates will have a HS diploma or equivalent, relevant certification programs, and BLS. The position offers a 36-hour weekly schedule with rotating weekends and opportunities for advancement within Sentara Health.

• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support admissions and discharge processes and ensure patient safety.
• Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes.
• Follow unit protocols and documentation practices.

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for a full-time, night shift position in Suffolk, VA on our Medicine Unit!

Hours: 7PM to 7AM. Three 12-hour shifts (36-hours per week), with rotating weekends.

Department/Position Overview:

Join a unit known for its great teamwork! This general medicine unit has great engagement within the nursing team, and the patient population is medical patients. Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital. PCT staff will see between 8 and 12 patient ratio on the unit.

Patient Care Technicians

are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.

Education:

• HS – High School Grad or Equivalent
• One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Education:

• One year of health care experience is preferred.
