Qualifications

  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, NCMA, NCPCT or equivalent credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Support admissions and discharge processes and ensure patient safety.
  • Observe patient status and report changes to the nurse promptly.
  • Assist with daily activities and maintain unit safety standards.
  • Document patient information as directed and assist with care coordination.

City/StateNorfolk, VAWork ShiftThird (Nights)Overview:Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk on the 3W Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit.Hours/Shift:Full-time, nightshift. Approximately 6pm to 6amDepartment/Position Overview:3 West is a 24 bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) step-down unit for patients with complex medical and surgical diagnoses. Each bed is private with telemetry in each room. Due to the clinical fragility of our patient population, we also have a respiratory therapist assigned to the unit.On 3 West we manage a wide variety of patient populations that could include but not limited to acute/chronic cerebrovascular accidents, ventilator dependent patients and those that can be weaned from the ventilator. These patients can also range from spinal cord injuries that were derived from trauma, gastrointestinal bleeds, acute/chronic renal failure, liver failure, respiratory failure, tracheostomy patients, patients that require positive pressure ventilation for urgent and emergent needs and newly diagnosed and chronic diabetes.Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse.
