Job summary

McLaren Health in Petoskey, MI, is seeking an ICU Unit Assistant to support patient‑centered care during night shifts (7:00 pm–7:30 am). Under the direct supervision of a nurse, you will perform selected daily care tasks and help maintain a safe, compassionate environment for patients and families.

Responsibilities include assisting with personal care, providing comfort, and ensuring HIPAA and infection-control compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire (AHA/ARC/Canadian equivalent).

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: Performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities. Maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural spiritual preferences.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN in effort to identify/attain treatment goals.
2. Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
3. Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, feeding, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
4. Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
5. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
6. Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent .
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire. Certification must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in direct care preferred.
• CENA training
• Prior experience obtained through clinical nursing rotation relevant to the specific work area.
