GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This role provides direct patient care and supports non-direct care unit coordination. The incumbent performs basic nursing procedures related to patient comfort and care, with knowledge of patient needs in the assigned area. Responsibilities include assisting RNs with acutely ill patients, practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, following hospital policies, responding to emergencies, maintaining the patient environment, and documenting care accurately. The position reports to the Registered Nurse and works under supervision, with specific tasks assigned by the Charge Nurse or Care Team Leader. Efficient time management is expected. Additional duties involve coordinating activities such as admissions, discharges, and transfers.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide and document direct patient care activities including vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, mobility, dressing changes, Foley catheter management, IV access, and assisting with exams and procedures (50%).
  2. Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives, including bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, safety protocols, and precepting new staff (20%).
  3. Accurately document all care activities and report changes in patient conditions to nursing staff (15%).
  4. Assist with unit activities such as supply management and equipment cleaning (15%).
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High School/GED
  • Experience as PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or related military roles, or 1 year in an acute or long-term care setting, or enrolled in nursing education programs.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and straight catheterization
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Clearances: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73
