Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities on and off the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites throughout Indianapolis.

Schedule

This position is scheduled from 5am to 5:30pm, with 24 hours per pay period.

Job Role Summary

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing various services to patients and families in support of the assigned unit as part of the patient care team under the supervision of the RN.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Provides for various patient needs: takes vital signs, performs pain assessments, monitors accuchecks, measures weight and height, performs EKGs.
  2. Assists with patient hygiene, bed linen changes, dressing changes, measures intake and output, draws blood, submits requisitions, performs Foley and ostomy care, removes PIV, don sterile gloves using aseptic technique, provides nourishment, assists with feeding, and reinforces mental orientation.
  3. Provides constant observation if working as a close observer, reports changes to RN, follows suicide precautions, documents every fifteen minutes.
  4. Completes documentation in EPIC including vital signs, restraints, intake/output, pain scale, skin care, hygiene, ADLs, and calorie count.
  5. Supports safe patient transfer and transport, maintains IVs and tubes during transport, transports specimens and blood products.
  6. Maintains regulatory readiness, keeps environment organized and clean, reports equipment repairs, replenishes supplies, sets up suction and orthopedic equipment, performs clerical duties.
  7. Participates in efforts to improve patient experience, such as rounding and communication techniques.
  8. For those in the Main OR: reviews preference cards, retrieves/returns equipment, assists with patient positioning and surgical prep, prepares for procedures, participates in performance improvement, ensures cleaning protocols, and serves as a surgical equipment expert.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Previous patient care experience preferred
