Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off the Eskenazi Health downtown campus, as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites throughout Indianapolis.

This is a 5am-5:30pm day shift position, 24 hours per pay period.

Job Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing various services to patients and families in support of the assigned unit as part of the patient care team under the supervision of the RN.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides for various patient needs: takes vital signs, pain assessments, monitors accuchecks, measures weight and height, performs EKGs.
- Assists with patient hygiene, bed linen changes, dressing changes, measures intake and output, draws blood, submits requisitions, performs Foley and ostomy care, removes PIVs, uses sterile gloves and aseptic technique, assists with feeding, and supports mental orientation of patients. Recognizes distress or changes in condition and reports promptly.
- If working as a close observer, maintains constant observation, reports behavioral or condition changes, follows Suicide Precautions if applicable, and documents every fifteen minutes.
- Completes documentation in EPIC, including vital signs, restraints, intake/output, pain scale, skin assessment, hygiene, ADLs, and calorie counts.
- Supports safe patient transfer and transport using appropriate equipment and body mechanics. Maintains IVs and tubes during transport, transports specimens and blood products as needed.
- Maintains a clean, organized environment, reports equipment issues, replenishes supplies, sets up suction and orthopedic equipment, and performs clerical duties.
- Participates in efforts to enhance patient experience, such as rounding and communication techniques.
- For Main OR roles: reviews preference cards, assists with patient positioning and surgical prep, helps prepare for procedures, participates in performance improvement, and ensures cleaning protocols are effective. Serves as an expert in surgical equipment across various specialties.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Previous patient care experience preferred
