Patient Care Technician I (PCT), Cardiac Surgery Stepdown, Nights

Job Description: Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am (3x12 hr shifts). Under the supervision of nursing staff, you will provide direct patient care, including vital signs, dressing checks, assisting with activities of daily living, blood draws, and specimen collection. You will observe, communicate patient status, and collaborate with the healthcare team to meet patient needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient testing and manage care based on findings
  • Document activities of daily living and vital signs
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and safety protocols
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, including wound and specimen care
  • Participate in hourly rounding and respond to alarms
  • Follow safety guidelines and report adverse events
  • Support patient comfort and mobility, and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Maryland CNA or GNA certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • No prior experience required; healthcare experience preferred

Skills & Abilities:

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize, perform multiple duties, and work under stress
  • Computer literacy and proper clinical techniques

Schedule & Compensation: 3-12 hour night shifts, 7 pm - 7:30 am. Pay range: $17 - $29.14 per hour. Additional benefits and details available in the UMMS Benefits Guide.
