Job Overview

This role involves providing direct patient care and assisting with non-direct unit coordination. The technician performs basic nursing procedures for patients in stable condition and supports RNs in caring for acutely ill patients. Key responsibilities include practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity and privacy, maintaining objectivity, adhering to hospital policies, responding to emergencies, maintaining the patient environment, and documenting care accurately in the electronic medical record. The technician works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, with specific assignments from Charge Nurses or Care Team Leaders, demonstrating effective time management. Additional duties involve coordinating activities related to patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Perform and document activities of daily living, vital signs, skin surveys, ambulation, specimen collection, intake/output, meal consumption, height and weight, blood glucose testing, point of care testing, bladder scanning, transporting patients, and assisting with exams, treatments, and procedures. (30%)
  2. Participate in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives such as bedside shift reports, hourly rounding for safety, hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and maintaining a clean environment. (30%)
  3. Accurately document vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, and treatments. Communicate changes in patient conditions and concerns to nursing staff. (20%)
  4. Assist with unit activities like supply stocking and equipment cleaning. (20%)
  5. Perform other duties as assigned. (Remaining percentage)
Qualifications
Minimum
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Limited or no experience; able to attend 2 weeks of training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance
Preferred
  • Recent acute care experience within last 3 years
  • Enrollment in ASN or BSN program, with at least one clinical rotation completed
