Job summary

UTMB Health seeks an entry-level patient care assistant to provide basic supportive care under supervision within a correctional health setting. You will assist with hygiene, feeding, mobility, vital signs data collection, and maintain patient privacy in a secure environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or UTMB Hospital Aide program (or two years of direct patient care) and current BLS-HP.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with program completion in Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or UTMB Hospital Aide
• Two years of direct patient care experience or currently enrolled in nursing program with first semester clinical concepts
• Current BLS-HP certification

Responsibilities

• Collects vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry and specimens.
• Performs and reports POCT.
• Assists with patient activities and care as indicated by plan of care.
• Provides for patients' personal hygiene.
• Assists with feeding and mobility.
• Ambulates, positions and turns patients; assists with altered mobility.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment and follows aseptic technique and infection control.
