Job Summary And Qualifications

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services related to nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the PCT assists in providing patient care according to the PCT’s skills and the department's needs, maintaining a clean, safe environment. The PCT must comply with hospital policies and observe State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.

What you will do in this role:

• Participate in implementing nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
• Record initial and ongoing patient information, including vital signs, intake/output, and other data as outlined by policy.
• Assist with mobility, including turning, positioning, and ambulating patients. Transfer patients and assist with discharges, demonstrating proper body mechanics.
• Collect specimens for diagnostic tests, ensuring accuracy and timely transfer.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including eating, bathing, grooming, and elimination. Change bed linens as needed.
• Serve as Monitor/Telemetry Tech as needed.
• Engage in evidence-based practices to enhance patient experience, including safety rounding and communication techniques.

Qualifications needed:

• CNA certification in Virginia preferred; or completed Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
