Patient Care Technician, Float Pool, Part time, Nights

  • Location: Capital Region Medical Center
  • Position Type: Non-Exempt

Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients.

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the care of patients by providing routine, non-professional nursing care utilizing advanced medical and surgical skills typically beyond the Nursing Assistant level. Takes patients' vital signs, observes and communicates changes in patient conditions. Requires CNA certification.

Provides safe, effective and efficient patient care as directed by assigned licensed nurse.

  1. Assists with obtaining basic patient information as part of the nursing history or ongoing assessment and reports abnormal values to the appropriate nurse.
  2. Orients patients to the care environment to promote patient comfort and safety.
  3. Observes and reports obvious physical and emotional patient changes to assigned nurse.
  4. Monitors patients for special risks and reports observations to assigned nurse (i.e., falls, skin breakdown).
  5. Makes regular patient visits to provide all patients with quick response to their needs.
  6. Seeks guidance and direction in prioritizing multiple demands to effectively meet patient’s needs.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned work area.
  8. Documents completely and accurately according to the unit and division standards, including safety measures.
  9. Remains calm and effective in emergency situations and follows appropriate guidelines.
  10. Performs and completes all assigned skills and duties as outlined in care plans, critical pathways, competencies, skills lists, standards, policies and procedures.
  11. Demonstrates manual dexterity abilities to perform precise skills required to meet patient care needs.
  12. Demonstrates the ability to operate and maneuver patient care equipment safely.
  13. Initiates equipment to ensure patient safety (bed alarm, side rails, trapeze, and restraints).
  14. Demonstrates the ability to use proper body mechanics to safely transfer and move patients.
  15. Practices infection control procedures and observes Standard Precautions.
  16. Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency situations.
  17. Maintains area of responsibility in neat and orderly condition.
  18. Stocks and returns equipment and supplies to proper storage area.
  19. Reports broken and unsafe equipment to appropriate personnel.

  • Greets customers in courteous, friendly, respectful and professional manner at all times.
  • Follows communication protocols to both internal and external customers.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to customer questions/concerns/complaints.
  • Keeps customer’s information confidential.
  • Provides assistance and offers help immediately.
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellent service recovery.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Required: Current Maryland certification in good standing as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Required: Certification in Pre-Transport/Post-resuscitation Stabilization Care of Sick Infants Guidelines for Neonatal Healthcare Providers (STABLE) is required for specific nursing units.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $17.17-$29.77
  • Other Compensation (if applicable): Shift differentials
