Job summary

Mohawk Valley Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Float Pool on the Night shift. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will assist in basic nursing care for non-acutely ill patients, support daily living activities, and help maintain a safe, clean environment.

This role also involves accurate patient identification, reporting changes to the primary caregiver, recording intake/output and vital signs, and assisting with bathing, mobility and positioning.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required by end of probation.
• Experience in patient care is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in basic nursing care for non-acutely ill patients (hygiene, ADLs, mobility).
• Maintain safe, clean environment; transport medications as defined by Pharmacy Services.
• Identify patients correctly before interventions; document and report changes to caregiver.
• Record intake/output, vital signs and weights; monitor patient status.
• Assist with bathing, oral/hair care, bed making, ambulation, positioning, and toileting.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists the nursing staff in the provision of basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, i.e., personal hygiene, activities of daily living and mobility. Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. May be required to transport medications as defined and authorized by Pharmacy Services.

Core Job Responsibilities

• Under the direction/supervision of a charge nurse, assists the nursing staff in provision of basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients, i.e., personal hygiene, activities of daily living and mobility. Assists in the maintenance of safe and clean environments. May be required to transport medications as defined and authorized by Pharmacy Services.


• Correctly identifies patients prior to performing interventions or care.


• Reports any changes or concerns of patients and families to the primary caregiver.


• Observes, collects, documents and reports intake and output, vital signs (temperature, radial pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and weights


• Provides bathing, oral and hair care, bed making, ambulation and positioning, and toileting.


• Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience Requirements

PREFERRED:

• High School graduate or equivalent

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

• Basic life support and behavior management training to be completed by end of a probationary period and maintained while in position.
