McLaren Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Nursing Float Pool. The role supports patient care, performs phlebotomy, and assists with daily living activities during day shifts (7a–7:30p) with a 72-hour biweekly schedule.

Required are a high school diploma (or GED), a state-approved PCT program or equivalent, an active Michigan CNA license and phlebotomy training, plus BLS certification valid beyond start date.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Cares for patients with clinical competence, implements care plans, and reports changes promptly.
  • Performs phlebotomy with proper patient identification, labeling, and lab submission while following infection control procedures.
  • Provides psychosocial support and assists with activities of daily living.
  • Delivers care to support physical function for daily activities (toileting, bathing, feeding, ambulation).
  • Documents care according to hospital guidelines immediately after procedures.

Position Summary:

Department: Nursing Float Pool

Daily Work Times: 7a-7:30p

Shift: Days

Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours: 72

Position Summary: As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/ family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care. Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, EKGs as required in specific work area. Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process and submission to the lab, follow infection control and safety procedures, monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support.
  • Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a state approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program OR
  • Must be actively licensed in the state of Michigan as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) AND complete a Phlebotomy Training Program
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred:

  • Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National HealthCareer Association)
  • Prior work experience in direct patient care role in a hospital environment
