RWJBarnabas Health's Jersey City Medical Center is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the ER's RDU. The role supports RNs with vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs and basic bedside care while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

The position is part-time, evening shift, 3pm–11:30pm with every other weekend. Candidates need a High School Diploma or GED and a current AHA BLS certification; CNA experience or certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Nursing assistant experience or CNA certification preferred.
• Evening shift with Mon-Fri 3pm–11:30pm; every other weekend.
• Comfort with vital signs, phlebotomy and basic bedside care.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate.
