Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Emergency Department at Jersey City Medical Center. The role supports registered nurses with hands-on patient care, vital signs, and daily activities while ensuring a safe, compassionate environment for patients.

You will work 7am to 3:30pm with every other weekend and some holidays, joining a team dedicated to clinical excellence and teamwork to restore comfort and dignity for every patient served.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association is required.
• Nursing assistant experience or clinical nursing program experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily nursing care including vital signs, mobility and personal care.
• Monitor and document patient status in EHR with confidentiality.
• Support RNs in care plans and patient safety protocols.
• Apply infection control practices and assist with basic life support when needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and healthcare teams to coordinate care.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program 7am to 3:30p. and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
