Summary of Job Duties: This posting will be used to fill multiple positions. Full-time/part-time positions are available across all shifts.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks that do not require a license. The PCT supports the delivery of care as part of the multidisciplinary team in the F9 ENT/Ortho Surgical Specialties Unit, a 30-bed unit caring for adult and adolescent patients with surgical conditions, including orthopedic procedures such as digit and limb re-implantation, joint replacement, and reconstructive surgery.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED and successful completion of a patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics, and accountability.
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
  • Patient care experience in an acute care setting.

The PCT works under the supervision of Registered Nurses, performing tasks that do not require a license or professional judgment. They must pass required competencies and adhere to UAMS standards, policies, procedures, and guest care guidelines. Responsibilities include obtaining patient reports, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, transporting patients, following the Plan of Care, communicating effectively, documenting care activities, and supporting department members.

Additional Information:

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Constant physical activity including hearing, reading, concentrating, and thinking analytically.
  • Frequent physical activity including standing, walking, talking, and using hands.
  • Occasional activities like sitting, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, and reaching overhead.
  • Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 100 lbs. or more.
  • Work environment inside a medical facility with moderate noise levels.
  • Visual requirements include near and far acuity, color discrimination, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Potential hazards include biological, chemical, electrical, radiation, sharp objects/tools, and dust.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
