Job summary

The University of Toledo is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Emergency Dept. This role supports patient care under the supervision of the RN and nursing leadership. The position requires flexibility to work weekends/holidays and potential unit rotations.

Starting wage is $17.60 per hour with regular increases. UTMC Healthcare Tech training and CPR/BLS certification are required after hire; experienced CNAs or nursing grads may have alternatives.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must complete UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification thereafter.
• Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
• Ability to plan and organize work and to work under supervision. Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their care when performing delegated functions.
• Must be available to work some weekends and holidays.
• May be required to rotate shifts and units.
• Physical requirements: visual acuity 20/20 (corrected if needed); hearing; ability to communicate; dexterity; lift up to 50 pounds; stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel; CPR capability.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates and assists in meeting the needs of the patient under RN delegation.
• Follows direction of the RN, Lead/Charge Nurse, Nursing Director/Assistant Nursing Director, and House Supervisor.
• Supports the patient care team with delegated duties within established methods and procedures.

Job Description

Patient Care Technician facilitates and assists in meeting theneeds of the patient. These tasks are to be within the rangeofresponsibilities that the Registered Nurse (RN) can rightfullydelegate to an unlicensed patient care provider. The Patient CareTechnician (PCT) follows the direction of the Registered Nurse, theLead/Charge Nurse, the Nursing Director/ Assistant NursingDirector, as well as the House Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 1. High School graduate or GED equivalent.
2. 2. Will be required to attend and successfully complete the UTMCHealthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification thereafter. Candidates with a current CPR/BLS certification AND at least one ofthe following are not required to attend and complete the UTMCHealth Tech training course:
   • - Has successfully passed a State Approved Certified NursingAssistant (CNA) exam or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) examand has an active certification on the applicable state registry atthe time of application.
   • - A recent graduate of an accredited nursing program.
   • - Candidates with recent equivalent experience who successfullypass the Skill Assessment will not be required to attend andcomplete the Healthcare Tech course
3. 3. Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and followdirections accurately.
4. 4. Ability to plan and organize work and to work under supervision.Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their carewhen performing delegated functions of this position and to performdelegated duties in accordance with established methods andprocedures.

   • a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including colorvision when applicable;
   • b. ability to hear (with or without aides)

   • e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 poundsoccasionally
   • f. ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently;and
   • h. ability to perform CPR
