Job Description

This is a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit caring for Orthopedic and Oncology patients. The schedule involves three (3) 12-hour shifts per week, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) required. Internal transfers are not eligible for the sign-on bonus.

The Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities.

Responsibilities

1. Performs basic nursing care activities delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
2. Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
3. Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
4. Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
5. Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking skills; able to function under stressful situations.
6. Utilizes critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work efficiently as needs change.
7. Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
8. Answers telephone, intercom, and call lights politely and communicates information appropriately.
9. Manages overall unit workflow in coordination with the charge RN and/or assistant manager.
10. Performs pre-census activities and validates daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

• Nursing students who completed one clinical rotation.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing students with one semester of clinical completed.
• CPR – Basic Life Support certification.
• Physical demands include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.

Preferred:

• Phlebotomy experience.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Phlebotomy course.
