About the Critical Care/Innovation Unit at BMC:

The Teaching Innovation Unit explores nursing model redesign, aiming to enable Registered Nurses (RNs) to work to the top of their licenses. RNs selected for this unit will work on innovation teams that pilot, measure, and evaluate new technologies and workflows. The unit provides an optimal teaching/learning environment through collaboration among RN leaders, healthcare team members, and clinical educators. It offers a true career-advancing opportunity.

Position Summary:

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team. Under the supervision of RNs and in accordance with hospital policies, you will provide direct clinical and support services, participating in delivering patient-centered care and supporting patients and their families. You will work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Perform delegated patient care interventions, including obtaining vital signs, bathing, feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms, linens, and providing emotional support.
  2. Ensure a safe, clean, and well-equipped environment through environmental and inventory activities.
  3. Contribute to the efficient operation of the department, ensuring quality clinical outcomes for patients and families.
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with CPR, current or obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • One of the following:
    • One year of experience as a PCT in an acute hospital setting
    • Enrollment in a nursing program with two completed clinical rotations
    • Completion of an approved PCT training or certified medical assistant training
    • One year of EMT or field medic experience (adult ED positions only)
  • Fluency in another language is a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
