Job Description

Highland Hospital, a 261-bed community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center, is recruiting experienced Patient Care Techs to join our team. Qualified candidates must be able to work rotating day/evening/night shifts, including every other weekend and 50% of the holidays, on a full or part-time basis. The position requires a 4 to 5-week orientation, during which you must be available to work any day or shift.

The Patient Care Technician 2 (PCT 2) supports and provides direct patient care on the nursing unit. The PCT plays a vital role in ensuring the physical and emotional comfort of patients and their families. The PCT provides direct patient care and completes other tasks to support patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Essential duties include:
  • Measuring and documenting patient vital signs
  • Maintaining, measuring, and documenting output from drainage systems (urinary, gastric, wound)
  • Bathing, toileting, and grooming patients
  • Positioning and turning patients
  • Recognizing, documenting, and reporting physical, behavioral, and mental changes in patients
  • Re-stocking and maintaining unit patient care supplies
  • Transporting patients and specimens
  • Precepting new PCTs

  • Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE)/Alternate Level of Care (ALC) - West 4
  • General Medicine - West 5
  • General Medicine - West 6
  • Complex Care - West 7
  • Medical/Surgical Oncology - East 5
  • Palliative Care - East 6
  • Progressive Care - East 7
  • General Surgery Bariatrics - Southeast 5
  • Medical/Surgical Total Joint/Orthopedics - Southeast 6
  • Medical/Surgical/Neuro/Orthopedics - Southeast 7
  • Emergency Department / ED Observation Unit
  • Medical/Surgical Observation Unit
  • PACU
  • Same Day Surgery
Pay Range:

$19.66 - $22.00 per hour. Salaries are determined based on market data, education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Requirements:
  • GED or High School Diploma
  • At least 1 year of healthcare experience providing direct personal care in an acute or long-term care setting
