Description

Provides assistance with patient care activities and other unit tasks under the supervision of licensed professional staff and as directed by the manager.

Responsibilities

• Provides physical care to assigned patients and performs technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
• Implements nursing orders promptly and adequately, understanding their purpose.
• Follows policies and procedures for patient care activities, including unit-specific equipment.
• Provides patient comfort through positioning, bathing, linens, and personal articles, with courtesy and responsiveness.
• Ensures patient safety via preventative measures like side rails, restraints, alarms, and hourly rounding.
• Enters data into the computer system accurately.
• Communicates patient and visitor information effectively.
• Provides age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
• Reports changes in patient condition or behavior to the nurse in charge.
• Recognizes and responds to care priorities promptly, exercising good judgment.
• Maintains effective relationships with healthcare team, patients, and families.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and well-stocked work environment and assists with equipment maintenance.
• Works as a Safety Attendant/Patient Sitter when assigned.
• Attends staff meetings and reads/signs meeting minutes.
• Maintains BLS certification.
• Fulfills compliance responsibilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information

Requires a High School Diploma and 0-6 months of relevant experience. Experience in a hospital is preferred. Active CNA certification is preferred. BLS/CPR certification required within 90 days of start or orientation completion.

Working Conditions

• Physical effort may involve exerting up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and human waste.
