Job Description - Patient Care Technician (250000TT)
In collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, perform basic nursing care activities, maintain a safe, clean, stocked patient care environment, assist staff, and help manage patient flow.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Minimum Work Experience: 1 year experience in a healthcare setting, preferably pediatrics; or one semester clinical experience at an accredited nursing school or military corpsman training (Preferred)
- Required Skills/Knowledge: Basic computer skills, aseptic technique, basic math skills, human relations, and interpersonal skills
- Required Licenses and Certifications: Patient Care Technician (CPCT), Basic Life Support (BLS)
Functional Accountabilities
Patient Services - Admission
- Orient family to call lights, monitor, and unit
- Set up monitors and alarms
- Perform vital signs, height, weight, and head circumference measurements
Patient Services - Daily Living
- Assist with ADLs, including bathing, skin care, mouth and peri-care
- Ensure proper nutrition as ordered
- Care for feeding tubes and administer feedings
- Apply skin creams as directed
- Collect cultures and samples
Direct Patient Care
- Recognize and report pain and skin breakdown
- Prioritize tasks and assist with procedures like trach care, EVDs, central line dressing, cast care, and care for dying patients
Monitor Surveillance
- Observe and alert RN to monitor deviations
Infection Control
- Care for isolation patients, adhere to hand hygiene, and clean equipment
Documentation
- Document timely on nursing database and notify charge nurse
Communication/Professionalism
- Communicate effectively with team, maintain professional relationships, resolve conflicts, and support family-centered care
Shared Leadership
- Stay informed about unit issues and participate in decision-making

- Speak up about safety concerns, verify information, and promote safety practices
