Job summary

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for full-time day shift. The PCT provides direct patient care, supports activities of daily living, and conducts vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, EKGs, and specimen collection under RN supervision.

A BLS certification within 90 days is required. Education options include HS diploma or equivalent, CNA/NCMA/NCPCT, or other approved programs; prior PCT/Nursing Assistant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Qualified for one of Sentara Care Partner/CNA/NCMA/NCPCT/EMT/Paramedic paths or current clinical student.
• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• One year of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs and mobility, assist with ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and specimen collection.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal and IV removal as directed.
• Document observations accurately and report changes to RN/medical staff.

Overview

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT). Full Time, Day shift. Shift: Days

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education

• HS Diploma or Equivalent OR
• One of the following programs is acceptable for education:
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certification/Licensure

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience

• One year of health care experience (Preferred).
