Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Patient Care Tech to join our nursing team. You will work closely with registered nurses to deliver hands-on patient care, support activities of daily living, and help maintain a safe and compassionate care environment.

The role includes a sign-on bonus of $3,000, on-the-job training, and opportunities to gain valuable clinical experience while advancing your future in healthcare. Applicants must be 16+, possess CPR, and meet nursing/program prerequisites.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Successful completion and documentation of one of: CNA, EMT-B, Medical Assistant, nursing program graduate waiting NCLEX.
• Must be enrolled in Trinity's PCT on the job training program.
• Current CPR certification.
• Fluent English; multicultural sensitivity; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Support patient care by assisting with activities aligned to the patient's Plan of Care under nurse direction.
• Deliver age-appropriate care following guidelines, policies, and state/federal regulations.
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as hygiene, nutrition, mobility support, vital signs, and specimen collection.
• Assist with non-invasive procedures including oxygen setup, blood glucose testing, and simple dressings.
• Accurately document all patient care activities and maintain a safe, clean environment.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence / Patient Care & Department Support

• Support patient care by assisting with activities aligned to the patient's Plan of Care under nurse direction
• Deliver age-appropriate care following established guidelines, policies, and state/federal regulations
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as hygiene, nutrition, mobility support, vital signs, and specimen collection
• Assist with non-invasive procedures including oxygen setup, blood glucose testing, and simple dressings
• Accurately and promptly document all patient care activities
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized care environment using standard precautions
• Identify and respond to patient safety needs, adjusting the environment as appropriate
• Communicate effective with patients, visitors, and care team members, escalating concerns in a timely manner
• Support efficient department operations by assisting with additional tasks as needed
• Demonstrate professionalism through teamwork, responsiveness, and clear communication including proper phone etiquette

Qualifications

• Experience: Must be at least 16 years old.
• License(s)/Certification(s): Successful completion and documentation of one of the following:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and waiting for NCLEX re-examination.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant listed as either Active or Inactive on any state health care worker registry.
  • EMT-B licensure.
  • Medical Assistant.
• Must be enrolled in Trinity's PCT on the job training program and successfully complete.
• Successful completion of first semester of nursing school that includes Nursing Fundamentals.
• Current CPR certification.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office - basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused. Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
• Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.
