UPMC Jameson's 2400 Flex Unit - Patient Care Technician

UPMC Jameson's 2400 Flex Unit is hiring a full-time Patient Care Technician to work all shifts. PCTs are essential team members who work on patient care units, performing a variety of basic and advanced skills. They collaborate closely with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient recovery and experience.

Responsibilities include:

1. Providing patient care, assisting with procedures, activities of daily living, and therapies. Reporting patient status changes to RN.
2. Performing core nursing assistant duties (blood glucose, vital signs, specimen collection, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, dressing changes, or IV removal.
3. Reporting equipment malfunctions, communicating effectively with departments, and contributing to unit activities like responding to call lights and transporting patients.
4. Receiving feedback, identifying learning needs, and participating in self-review to improve skills.
5. Providing patient and family instruction under RN supervision and applying/removing restraints as per protocol.
6. Communicating effectively with the healthcare team, respecting cultural diversity, and supporting workplace safety.
7. Adhering to policies, procedures, and safety standards, and supporting departmental projects and quality initiatives.
8. Documenting in medical records, completing clerical tasks, and performing assigned duties timely and efficiently.
9. Performing routine ADLs, point-of-care testing, and other competencies as required, including advanced skills like phlebotomy and EKG, based on departmental needs.
