Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) I performs basic patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, appropriately escalating to the nurse any changes related to the patient’s condition, and activities of daily living (ADL’s). The PCT I provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity and practices patient and family centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills: No experience required. All necessary training on PCT Core Competencies will be provided by Memorial Hermann.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
2. Performs duties such as vital signs, visual monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition support, bathing, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
3. Ensures timely and accurate documentation of patient information and reports any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
4. Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
5. Follows safety practices, adheres to safety rules, and participates in safety programs and organizational policies.
6. Develops knowledge of patient care, hospital processes, and team integration.
7. Participates in professional governance and team activities.
8. Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, including time and resource management.
9. Supports professional growth through mandatory and continuing education and skills competency.
10. Creates compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
