This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical, and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. This position will provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior patient care experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Observe and report all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
  2. Assist the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
  3. Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene, and other patient comfort measures. Record oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure, and other monitoring).
  4. Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  5. Assist in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  6. Report all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
  7. Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  8. Communicate with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
  9. Assist department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
  10. Answer patient call bell and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
Additional Requirements
  • For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.
  • Physical Requirements: Work requires strength and stamina, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • Working Environment: Working closely with others, irregular hours, biohazards, infectious diseases, working with or near the deceased, hands in water, electrical hazards from equipment.
  • Skills and Abilities: Effective communication, adaptability to changing environments.
