General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Franklin Square Hospital. The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge, verbal/written communication skills, and basic computer skills.
As a Patient Care Technician, you will work as part of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. You will assist medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests, and support patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Responsibilities include specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation in the health record. Duties may vary depending on the work area and patient needs.

Assist patients with ADLs and personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
Assist with patient mobilization, use of mobility aids, and transfer/transport of patients.
Collect specimens, perform venipuncture/phlebotomy, obtain EKGs, apply telemetry monitoring, and insert/maintain IVs and dressings. Document patient intake/output and vital signs accurately.
Perform routine sterile and non-sterile treatments such as tube feedings, ostomy care, Foley catheter care/removal, wound care, turning/positioning, postmortem care, and equipment maintenance.
Maintain patient comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity. Observe patients, respond to questions, and report changes in condition. Assist in CPR when needed.
Ensure cleanliness and safety of patient environment, assist with environmental services, and manage supplies. Transport patients and complete errands such as specimen delivery.
This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
