Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Christiansburg, VA is seeking a Clinical Associate (Patient Care Tech) to provide basic clinical services and clerical support to the unit health-care team. Responsibilities include greeting patients, coordinating flow, scheduling procedures, maintaining records, transporting supplies, and assisting with chart audits.

Employee must attend orientation and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or GED.
• Experience: none
• Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Critical Access Area - Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
• Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills. Must be organized and self-motivated. Must have knowledge of office procedure and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
• May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet.
• Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
• Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
• May assist with chart audits.
• May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients.
• May participate in the sitter process
• Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals.
• Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
• Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage.
