Job summary

Crisp Regional Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff under supervision of licensed nurses. You will assist with basic patient care, monitor safety, and operate essential equipment in a fast-paced health setting.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and a current Basic Life Saving certification; prior venipuncture or EKG experience is preferred. Training provided for orientation and ongoing education.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Provide direct support to nursing staff and follow directions to deliver quality patient care.
• Alert medical staff to changes in patient condition.
• Operate medical equipment safely (BP machines, monitors, glucometers, blanket warmers, tele consult carts).
• Collect and transport patient specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Assist patients with basic care needs (feeding, positioning, hygiene, oral care).
• Obtain EKG readings and communicate with providers.
• Provide one-on-one safety monitoring for behavioral health patients.
• Comply with safety, infection control, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintain knowledge of medical terminology.
• Provide basic clerical support as requested.
• Present a professional image to staff, patients, families, and visitors.
• Participate in performance improvement studies and apply standards.
• Attend professional development and in-service training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the leadership of the departmental Nursing Director and the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Patient Care Technician provides culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate patient care. The Patient Care Technician works under close supervision of a licensed nurse and performs a variety of basic patient care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs of patients.

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

Requires a high school diploma in General Studies or a GED state certification.

Experience:

No required work-related experience. Experience with venipuncture and obtaining EKGs preferred.

Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:

Requires and maintains a certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS). (If BLS certification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within the orientation period.)

• Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians, coworkers, and staff from other departments of the organization.
• Provides direct support to the nursing staff and providers and follows the departmental Director’s and licensed nursing staff’s instructions and directions in the delivery of quality patient care.
• Alerts the medical staff to any changes in the patient’s condition.
• Operates medical equipment safely, such as but not limited to automatic blood pressure machines, cardiac monitors, glucometers, blanket warmers, and tele consult carts.
• Collects and transports patient specimens for laboratory analysis as directed.
• Assists patients with basic care needs, such as but not limited to feeding, positioning, basic hygiene, and oral care.
• Obtaining EKG readings on patients and communicating with providers.
• Providing one on one safety monitoring and precautions for behavioral health or psychiatric patients.
• Complies with CRHS and departmental safety, infection control, and performance improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
• Maintains and expands knowledge of medical terminology.
• Provides basic clerical support as requested.
• Present a professional image to CRHS nursing, clinical, and medical staff members as well as patients, families, and visitors.
• Participates in performance improvement studies and integrates performance improvement standards into work-related activities.
• Attends professional development programs and in-service training and meets the minimum requirement for continuing professional education.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
