Job summary

Tenet Healthcare is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA) in Detroit to support patient care services. You will perform multi-skilled patient care tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse, assist with transporting patients, specimens, and supplies, and report any deviations in patient parameters to the RN.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, completion of a PCA/CNA/Medical Assistant/EMT/phlebotomy program, and at least 2 years of inpatient patient care experience; 6

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a practical nursing school or equivalent training program.
  • Completion of one listed PCA/PCT, CNA, Medical Assistant, EMT, or phlebotomy program.
  • At least 2 years inpatient patient care experience.
  • 6 months direct patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care.
  • Work under RN supervision with delegated tasks.
  • Transport patients, specimens, and supplies as needed.
  • Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the RN.

Education

Graduation from a school of practical nursing / OR one of the following programs
Certified PCA/PCT Program

Job Description

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.

The PCA is assigned to work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and PCA skills and abilities. Typical duties include, but are not limited to such things as patient care needs, transporting patients, specimens and/or supplies.

The PCA will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. Graduation from a school of practical nursing ...OR...

Completion of one of the following:

a. A Certified PCA/PCT Program

b. A Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training.

c. A Medical Assistant Program.

d. An EMT program.

e. A phlebotomy training program.

3. At least 2 years of work experience as a patient care associate / tech (must be inpatient setting)

4. With six (6) months direct patient care experience, preferred.

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeast Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
