Job summary

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for ICU coverage. The role supports physicians and nurses, delivering care across patient ages from newborn to geriatric.

This full-time 0.9 FTE position emphasizes documentation, adherence to policies, and compassionate patient support. Kansas certifications and basic clinical computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Certification as MA, CNA, EMT or HHA in Kansas is required.
• Current BLS/CPR within 30 days of hire or by end of orientation.
• Experience with sterile technique and phlebotomy/EKG training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete timely and accurate documentation per policy.
• Provide patient care under physician/nursing direction.
• Care for patients from newborn to geriatric.
• Maintain PHI privacy and security.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Patient Care Tech (PCT) - ICU - FT

Essential Responsibilities

• Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.


• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.


• Provide care as directed to achieve desired patient outcomes for patients newborn thru geriatric.


• Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.


• Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).


• Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Certification as an MA, CNA, EMT, or HHA in the state of Kansas - including equivalent experience such as 1st trimester nursing school, etc.

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

• Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first


• Successful completion of on the job training for sterile technique, maintenance of sterile field and instrument care/handling (Obstetrics and Surgery)


• Successful completion of on the job EKG and phlebotomy training (Emergency)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous exposure to a medical environment.


• Certification as a MA, CNA, EMT, or HHA in the state of Kansas


• Phlebotomy Technician PBT (ASCP)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic computer skills.


• Moderate computer skills required for Telesitter.


• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.


• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.


• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.


• Possess compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

Physical Requirements

• With or without accommodation.


• Very Heavy Work: Occasionally exerting greater than 100 lbs - constantly exerting up to 50 lbs.


• 75-100% of the day may be standing or walking.
